America prides itself in its charities.

by and large, charities do the work that society should do through taxes, and the best way ot do that is to tax the rich fairly and then COLLECT those taxes! even if we didnt actually raise taxes. we leave over $600 billion in taxes uncollected each year! that is about 1/4 of all the federal income taxes levied! think if every program in the US govt had an additional 25% in its budget. or think of this, $600 billion would fund a $150 per month ubi for every man, woman and child in america. This would literarally end poverty in America as we know it. This is not about raising taxes on the rich. It is simply about making them pay WHAT THEY ALREADY OWE!!!! the tax rate on the rich is about 25%, given the highest bracket, minus all the current legal deductions. We could, without much pain to those whose annual income is over $1 million (about 2 million people) add a 10% surtax to all income, capital gains, inheritence, stock options, and other items of value recieved on all income/wealth accrued raising another $2 trillion dollars, or nearly as much as we currently collect in federal taxes for all americans. We could invest this money in home purcahes down payments, fully funding a single payer health care system, fully funding a no cost to student higher education for all who want it, as well as offering some amount of reparations to the descendants of enslaved americans. making a downpayment on the $15 trillion on the wealth created by enslaved americans. We would not need charities then. in fact, we could tax religjious institutions and raise even more money….
