for me, for you, for America, for the world. It is not a perfect day. We will probably never live to see that day. Tomorrow may be the beginning of a long and horrible affair of 4 or more years. For most of us white straight people, especially men, the direct harm will likely be minimal. higher prices more antiworker friendly work environments. for black and brown folks, for queer folks for immigrants documented and otherwise, for countries around the world allies and non allied countries, the coming days, weeks , months and years could prove to be horrible, especially if we see more rubber stamping from congress and the courts.
For those o fus in the privileged classes, as well as the marginalized challenged ones, this will be a great opportunity to actually live the romantic state most of us have only heard or read about. we can be warriors for justice. The truth is, we have needed to be that since forever, because even in the Biden, Obama, Clinton, Carter, Johnson, Kennedy, Truman, Roosevelt, and earlier ears, America has never been about justice or equity, though some periods have been less harmful than others.
But starting Jan 21, 2025, we will have the privilege to fight against forces that are truly as dark as the days of Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin and Mao, as dark as the days of bull connor, lester maddox and george wallace. We have the opportunity to stand at the very clear lines between good and evil, or at least the not too bad and pure evil. I hope you take up your moral and spiritual swords (maybe or maybe not actual swords, depending on how the future unfolds. but we can all certainly peacefully resist the harm intended for so many folks.
Back to today, as flawed as the Biden administration was/is his record on trying to level the playing field for working people, for folks of black and brown skin has made these past 4 yrs some of the most progressive in American history. We must celebrate that. Speaking of flaws, one of the biggest was the support of genocide in Palestine, even these we have hope to celebrate a ceasefire which is a tiny direction towards true justice for the innocent people of Palestine, and it will depend if Israel decides, for the first time in history to honor their word. but it is a step.
Through all of this, though, remember to protect yourself, your mental health, your physical self.
But know, with effort, we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT, for the first time. we can resist the evil that awaits, we can and will overcome the darkness descending tomorrow.
